Dark Sky Leaning
Oil on board, diptych
1800 x 1200mm
The title 'Dark Sky Leaning' is inspired by a Hone Tuwhare poem. In A Fall of Rain at Mitimiti, Tuwhare describes the 'Black Sky Leaning', a phrase which evokes the looming, almost ominous, dark trees of winter in the bush of our wildest places. Vestiges of human control remain but the hope and resilience of nature is ascendant.
